We mentioned on 28th May that a significant weather event is going to affect the West Coast and Tasman regions of the South Island over King's Birthday weekend.

MetService went straight to warnings instead of the usual weather watches.  Updated warnings will be out tonight, Friday, May 29th. There is also a risk of Thunderstorms.

Even for the West Coast, the expected rain amounts are pretty high over a short period. We anticipate issues associated with this weather -  such as flooding, slips, road closures, etc.
